PUA21004 - Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)
The Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) is Surf Life Saving Australia’s premier award. It is available for all teachers and students over the age of 15 years. The aim of this course to provide participants with the knowledge of basic patrolling and surf awareness, in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations.
RELEVANT FOR
• Any student wishing to gain advanced knowledge in aquatic rescue techniques and those interested in employment in the areas of Surfing Queensland Learn to Surf Instructor or paid lifeguard work.
• Students wishing to obtain credits for their QCE
• Any teacher that is responsible for supervision of students participating in coastal water based activities
• Teachers wishing to conduct training and assessing for Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) for students under the ALAQ RTO banner (please contact the ALAQ Manager for further details).
COURSE DURATION
40 hours (Full Course)
4 hours (Update – required every 12 months)
PRE-REQUISITE
• The minimum age requirement for Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) is 15 years.
• Participants must be able to complete a swim of 400 meters in 9 minutes or less over a measured course (minimum 25m pool or measured open water course).

CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will obtain a qualification in PUA21004 - Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue).
