HTFA201A Provide Basic Emergency Life Support

Basic Emergency Life Support aims to develop the attitude, skills and knowledge of a person to provide basic first aid in an emergency situation.

This course offers quality first aid training that will enable the participant to perform resuscitation and assist in minor first aid situations.

It is recommended that this unit of competency is updated every 3 years.

 

DURATION

6 hours (Full Course)
4 hours (Update – every 3 years)
 
PRE-REQUISITES
The minimum age requirement for this course is 13 years.

COURSE CONTENT
• Apply the principles of basic First Aid
• Perform a basic emergency care management assessment (DRABCD)
• Asthma & Anaphylaxis Management
• Apply Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Recognition and management of patients with broken bones, dislocations, sprains and strains
• Recognition and management of patients suffering minor burns including sunburn
• Treatment of wounds, infection, shock and bleeding
• Treatment of poisoning including venomous bites and stings
• Reporting of accidents.
 
ASSESSMENT
Participants will demonstrate their level of knowledge, skills and understanding through practical and theoretical activities, and be assessed against this.
 
ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY
On successfully completing the training and assessment, participants will obtain a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment in the following unit of competence.
• HLTFA201A Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
Also incorporates the content of:
• HLTCPR201A Perform CPR
 
METHODS OF DELIVERY
Full Course - 6 hours face-to-face training and assessment, with the theory and workbook completed in advance
Update - 4 hours face-to-face training and assessment
