PUAEME001C - Administer Oxygen in an Emergency Situation

Advanced Resuscitation training aims to provide participants with the necessary skills, knowledge and application to use advanced resuscitation techniques. It is specifically designed for individuals wishing to safely adminster oxygen by facemask or mechanical resuscitator to a breathing or non-breathing casualty.

The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends renewing this Unit of Competency every 12 months.

 

DURATION
5 hours (Full Course)
4 hours (Update – every 12 months)
 
PRE-REQUISITES
• The minimum age requirement for Advanced Resuscitation is 15 years
• Must hold current unit of competency in:
- HLTFA301B Apply First Aid
- PUAEME001B Provide Emergency Care (if you do not hold this Unit of Competency, ALAQ is able to conduct a short course to be able to issue you the pre-requisite certificate)

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY
On successfully completing the training and assessment, participants will obtain a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment in the following unit of competence:
- PUAEME003C – Administer Oxygen in an Emergency Situation
 
COURSE CONTENT
• Casualty assessment
• Anatomy and physiology of the cardiopulmonary circulation
• Chain of Survival
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Expired Air Resuscitation and External Cardiac compressions
• Infection control procedures
• Apply Bag and mask resuscitation skills
• The use of oxygen powered resuscitation equipment
 
ASSESSMENT
Participants will demonstrate their level of knowledge, skills and understanding through both practical and theoretical activities, and be assessed against this.

Full Course - 5 hours face-to-face training and assessment
